In Yemen, a group of armed men kidnapped six employees of a UN humanitarian agency, including one foreigner. This was reported by the information portal Yemen News.
It is noted that UN representatives were in the province on a working trip to study the humanitarian situation in the province of Abyan in the south of the country.
The officers were seized as they were returning to Aden, and the military police accompanying them were kidnapped along with them. All were taken away in an unknown direction. Representatives of one of the tribes in the province of Abyan said that the extremists are trying to negotiate the exchange of hostages for their accomplices, who were previously arrested by the forces of the Southern Transitional Council (STC).
The STC accused the Muslim Brotherhood ( banned in Russia ) international association of involvement in the incident, which supports militants operating in the region, including terrorists of the Al-Qaeda group ( a terrorist group banned in Russia ).
The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing since 2014. It involves the separatists who formed the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in 2017: initially they were on the side of the government and fought against the militants of the Shiite group, but then, in 2019, they captured Aden and began to fight against the authorities. The government, which is fighting militants and STC, is working with an international coalition led by Saudi Arabia.
