Excavated Thermopoly in Pompeii

Moscow. 27th of December. INTERFAX.RU – Archaeologists have discovered an analogue of a modern energy bar in one of the poorly explored areas of the ancient city of Pompeii, CBS News reported.

The unusual find turned out to be in area number five, which was partially excavated only last year. The area has yet to be explored. “The bar” lay on the counter of the thermopoly (tavern – IF), which went out into the street. In the ancient Roman thermopolies, hot food and wine were traded.

The counter is decorated with frescoes depicting the food served in the inn. The walls are decorated with humorous pictures with signatures in ancient Greek.

Pompeii died in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. They are located in Italy, which was then part of the Roman Empire. The eruption caught the city in the dark. It is well preserved under a layer of ash, and archaeologists can observe not only antiques, but also the inhabitants of their daily activities.
