Apple's planned vehicle will be based on Hyundai's E-GMP platform. This is reported by MacRumors with reference to the authoritative insider Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a declassified policy note for investors at TF Securities, which was reviewed by the editors, Min-Chi Ko confirms reports of a potential partnership between Apple and Hyundai. The expert believes that the American corporation's electric car will be based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) announced in December. The platform is distinguished by the presence of two engines, has an integrated drive axle and a battery that allows you to travel more than 500 kilometers on a single charge.
The battery has fast charging, which allows it to be 80 percent recharged in 18 minutes. The E-GMP-based electric car can accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in less than 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of around 260 kilometers per hour (160 mph).
According to the specialist's forecast, Hyundai Mobis will be engaged in the production of some components of the future car, which Min-Chi Ko conventionally calls Apple Car. Hyundai Group subsidiary Kia will provide Apple with a production line for the assembly of electric vehicles in the United States.
The document says that the release of Apple Car will take place no earlier than 2025, but if the company plans to present the car by this date, then it is already “on a tight schedule.” Since Tim Cook's corporation has no automotive expertise, it can take 18 to 24 months to develop an electric vehicle from scratch.
Min-Chi Ko did not disclose the potential cost of Apple's electric car, but is confident that the car will be sold in the premium segment. High profitability can bring substantial profits to both Apple and its partners.
