Apple has published Building a Robust Ecosystem for Millions of Applications documenting the implications of downloading games and applications bypassing the App Store.
So, according to the published data, if iPhone owners began to download applications from third-party sources, the security of the iOS operating system would fall, thereby exposing users to risks. Among other things, this would also lead hackers to focus on organizing complex attacks against users of iOS devices. This, in turn, would negatively affect not only users who download applications outside the App Store, but also those who use the official store.
According to Apple, the prevalence of downloads outside the App Store would reduce the effectiveness of certain iOS features, such as the Ask to Buy option to control children's downloads of games.
