The author of the Telegram channel Denis Sexy IT tested the new Apple AirTags and came to the conclusion that they can be used to spy on people. The situation is most dangerous for Android users.
The author of the channel conducted an experiment with a friend. With his permission, an activated AirTag was thrown into his backpack. As a result, the author was able to see the entire route of the friend while he was driving home. 5 minutes after he was at home, his iPhone sent a notification that he was “traveling with AirTag”, and therefore movements can be seen by someone else. However, five minutes was enough to find out the approximate address of the “victim”. It can be seen in the Find My app.
If you open a notification, a map of “compromised” movements is shown. But it is impossible to find out who owns the “spy” AirTag. Apple advises to remove the battery in such cases.
The author shared that he experienced the horror of the experiment. According to him, iPhone users are well protected, but the owners of Android-smartphones may never notice that they are being followed. Apple previously said that AirTag sometimes makes sounds so that it can be found. But in theory, the keychain can be disassembled and the speaker can be turned off for it.
