Apple specialists are currently developing a photo tracking system for iPhone users' smartphones. The company plans to search devices for prohibited images. This was announced on Thursday, August 5, by security expert and associate professor at the Johns Hopkins Institute for Information Security Matthew Green on his Twitter page.
According to him, the new system, which is being developed by Apple, will be able to detect illegal photos on iOS devices. This technology will work on the basis of hashing images that are stored in the databases of special services.
One of the possible reasons for such a decision may be the desire of the American company to fight child abuse: they will look for relevant photos in the pictures, and then transfer the information to law enforcement officers. Apple itself has not yet confirmed this innovation.
Matthew Green called this idea not very good. According to the security expert, the system could become a base for tracking data traffic sent and received from the iPhone.
