Apple has registered a patent for a display for foldable smartphones. About this with reference to the website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) reports the publication 9to5mac.
In the description of the invention it is said that displays usually have a rigid substrate, which, when installed in smartphones with moving parts of the housing, breaks over time. “To improve the appearance of an electronic device, it is desirable to minimize the number of scratches and dents,” the document says. For this, according to the inventors, displays must have a special regenerative layer.
According to Apple's idea, such a screen component should straighten the display surface and save it from scratches and wrinkles without user intervention. The company's engineers described two scenarios: according to the first, the screen is restored constantly. According to the second, the additional layer begins to smooth out under the influence of heat and light, for example, when charging an iPhone.
Journalists noticed that the patent appeared on the USPTO website on October 1. According to its description, Apple filed a patent application on March 26, 2019.
In early fall, the authoritative Ice Universe insider said that Apple could release the first foldable iPhone in the coming year. According to the specialist, the American company has ordered a “significant” number of flexible displays from Samsung Display. The contract between the corporations is concluded for a period of one year.
