Apple and Facebook posted strong profit growth in the last quarter thanks to the Corona crisis.
The internet companies Apple and Facebook achieved strong profit growth in the last quarter of the Corona year. Apple posted a profit of $ 28.7 billion, an increase of 29 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year, as the company announced on Wednesday. Revenue rose 21 percent year-on-year to $ 111.4 billion.
Facebook announced profits of $ 11.2 billion in the final quarter of 2020 – an increase of 53 percent compared to the same period last year. The turnover of the world's largest operator of online networks grew by 33 percent to 28 billion dollars.
The significant increases in profits and sales of both US corporations reflect social developments during the Corona crisis. Given the worldwide restrictions on freedom of movement to contain the virus, many people spend more time on the Internet and online networks and the use of digital communication tools is increasing.
Apple was “pleased” with the “enthusiastic reaction” of consumers to its innovative products, said CEO Tim Cook. The most popular Apple product was again the iPhone, with sales of almost 66 billion dollars alone. The sales of the iPhone increased by around 18 percent.
Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg said: “We had a strong year-end.” According to the company, the Facebook network was used by around 2.8 billion people around the world at the end of December. A total of 3.3 billion people were on at least one of the Group's networks, which also includes Instagram and WhatsApp.
