Bad scenes in the NHL. A referee collided with a player before a test match, remained unconscious and had to go to hospital.
The sport took a back seat on Thursday night in Los Angeles. The LA Kings received the Arizona Coyotes for a test match. A momentous incident occurred before the opening bully.
Linesman Ryan Gibbons collided with Arizona crack Liam O'Brien and fell to the ground. Gibbons was hit hard in the head. Both did not see each other coming, so the referee lacked any body tension.
Gibbons remained motionless for several minutes, was treated on the ice and driven to the hospital. There was the first all-clear. The Linesman suffered a concussion. The doctors released him that same evening.
In the arena, players, coaches, fans and referees had feared even worse injuries in the anxious minutes in which Gibbons was passed out.
