Anti-scientific conference, “Khakhaton” and the theremin: the FestTech festival will take place in September

by alex

On September 25, the popular science festival FestTech will take place, which will open the participants to the amazing and incomprehensible world of science, technology and high-tech humor. The event grew out of the traditional MIPT Physicist Days, the first festival brought together 6,000 people. This year, four key tracks – Hard Science, Pop Science, Tech Science and Art Science – will again bring together critical thinkers, scientists, science promoters, technology companies and artists.

The program includes more than 20 activities – lectures and panel discussions on the most promising areas, the show “Scientific corrals”, theory and practice of playing the theremin from Peter Termen, great-grandson of the creator of the legendary instrument, and much more.

“Phystech has always been famous for its powerful community of superball students, leading Nobel laureates, and alumni who regularly add to the Forbes lists. In addition to outstanding achievements in science and business, there is a huge legacy in the form of special traditions and high-tech humor that remain within the walls of the campus. I am very pleased with the emergence of such a unique event as the FestTech festival, where everyone will have the opportunity not only to learn about the latest achievements of science and technology, but also to be inspired by the ideas of the physicists, to touch their culture, ”said MIPT Rector Dmitry Livanov.

Among the events of the festival:

● Anti-scientific conference

An annual show from Phystech, where students and young scientists defend reports on non-existent topics, for example, tus dynamics and catophysics, Kringa measure and complex algebra of relations. The performances are evaluated by the jury – experts and partners of FestTech – and the audience. This time the best “anti-scientists” will be chosen: MIPT graduate and Nobel laureate in physics Konstantin Novoselov, pop-science blogger Dmitry Pobedinsky, Education piccher Evgeny Zeleny, as well as other representatives of the scientific community and festival spectators.

● Science Pop Marathon: Digital Science Pop Universe

A large video stream, where authors and creators of scientific pop communities, bloggers and popularizers discuss various pressing issues with presenters and subscribers.

● “Khakhaton”: high-tech humor is not a joke to you!

The offline competition brings together up to 50 participants. Teams need to use memes, science and humor to find a solution to a particular problem within two hours. Explaining quantum mechanics in 10 memes, deriving a formula for a joke about recursion, constructing a mathematical model of an ideal student is a far from complete list of problems that participants will have to solve in the format of a kind of hahaton. In the final, a representative of each team will defend the presentation before the jury of the organizers and partners of the event.

● Quiz Quiztech

An intellectual game with up to 200 participants, where dozens of teams compete for the title of the smartest. Registration will be announced three weeks prior to the event.

Anyone from anywhere in the world can take part in the popular science festival FestTech, the event will be held in a hybrid online and offline format. Registration is open on the website festtech.ru.

The organizers of the festival are the Phystech Union, the Phystech community are joking, the MIPT and the Phystechpark Business Center, with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund. The official social network of the festival is VKontakte.
