Another NATO country is discussing sending troops to Ukraine

Estonia is considering the possibility of sending its troops to the west of Ukraine, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces have released their reserves to the front.

Estonia is “seriously discussing “the possibility of sending military personnel to Ukraine.

Estonian Presidential Adviser for National Security Madis Roll spoke about this in an interview with the Breaking Defense portal.

A plan to send troops to western Ukraine is currently being considered, to take over indirect “rear” roles for Ukrainian forces in order to free them up to fight at the front. Madis Roll said the executive branch of government is reviewing such a potential move.

At the same time, he acknowledged that Estonia would prefer such a step within the framework of a full NATO mission – “to demonstrate broader united strength and resolve.”

Roll does not rule out that NATO countries opposed to such a step will change their minds “over time.”

Roll's comment comes after the head of the Estonian Defense Forces, General Martin Gorem, said last week that several months ago there were discussions within the army about sending troops to western Ukraine to carry out tasks such as medical care, logistics – technical support or air defense. .

“The desire of different countries to send certain forces to Ukraine is a potential dividing line within NATO. Although each member of the Alliance has the right to send forces where it sees fit for the sake of its national interests, some countries have made it clear that they see more risk in it than they see more risk.” rewards,” the publication notes.

At the same time, Germany and the United States categorically rejected the idea of sending troops into Ukraine.

Previously, TSN.ua collected everything that is known about the intentions of French President Emmanuel Macron to send troops to Ukraine. According to him, sending the military to Ukraine is likely in the event of a possible Russian breakthrough to Kyiv or Odessa.

According to Le Monde, Macron expected to send troops to Odessa in the coming year.
