The Norwegian airline Norwegian stops flights over Ukraine due to the current situation, citing a safety assessment.
This was announced by the director of communications Esben Tuman, reports the local edition of “E24”.
“We made this decision based on a comprehensive safety assessment. Therefore, we have decided not to fly over Ukraine until further review of the assessment. Safety always comes first,” he said.
It is noted that the airline mostly does not have direct routes to Ukraine, but occasionally flies over the western parts of Ukraine during flights to Hungary or Turkey . According to Tuman, they are avoiding the eastern regions after the crash of flight MH-17 over the Donbass.
At the same time, according to Prime Minister John Eckhoff in SAS, the flight from Oslo to Kiev, which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 15, has not yet been canceled and will depart at 09:30.
It should be noted that on February 13, according to information from the Boryspil airport, the Dutch company KLM canceled all its flights from February 13 to 17. At the same time, the air carrier itself does not report any changes.
Meanwhile, the press service of the Boryspil International Airport reports that the airport continues to operate as usual, “ensuring safety and a high level of air security in full.” In turn, the International Airport “Kyiv” also does not inform about the cancellation of flights or changes in the schedule.
Before that, on February 13, an urgent meeting was held at the Ministry of Infrastructure with the participation of the leadership of the OPU, the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine, UkSATSE, Boryspil Airport and Ukrainian airlines. The result was a statement that the sky over Ukraine remains open.
