Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decree on the celebration of the day of the pipeline troops on January 14. This army unit was created as a separate battalion for pumping fuel during the Soviet era and has no analogues in foreign armies.
This is reported by TASS with reference to the corresponding document published on Thursday, December 30, on the official portal of legal information.
The pipeline troops were formed by the directive of the Minister of Defense of the USSR on January 14, 1952. Their armament consists of pipelines, pipe assembly equipment and other means of mechanization of work, as well as special vehicles and communication equipment.
In modern conditions, the Russian pipeline troops are engaged in ensuring the continuous delivery of fuel over considerable distances.
“Establish the Day of Pipeline Troops in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and celebrate it on January 14,” the decree of the President of the Russian Federation says.
