Romania is on a par with other countries that prohibit Huawei from “building” 5G on its territory. On the eve of its president Klaus Iohannis signed the corresponding law.
Curiously, the ban applies not only to Huawei, but also to a number of other Chinese companies. All of them are now prohibited from taking part in the development of Romanian 5G networks, writes Reuters. Sources say this was done at the suggestion of the United States.
Note that back in 2019, the United States and Romania signed a memorandum, according to which both sides, “as part of a risk-based approach to security,” will thoroughly check and evaluate suppliers of 5G equipment and services.
This decision was made with the aim of excluding those companies that are controlled by a foreign government and are also opaque in their ownership structure.
