Ancient artifacts found in stomach of giant Mississippi alligator
In the United States, animal butcher Shane Smith made an unusual find in the stomach of a huge alligator caught in Mississippi, Fox News reports.
According to the scientists who studied the find, the tip of a dart or spear, about six thousand years old, was found in the stomach of the reptile, as well as a plumb line for a fishing net, which is about four thousand years old.
The caught alligator weighed 350 kilograms and reached almost four meters in length. Moreover, the life expectancy of such animals in the wild is 30-50 years.
Apparently, the reptile swallowed a plumb line and a tip to improve digestion – such objects allow crushing solid objects in the stomach.
Earlier, paleontologists from the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology, which is located in Canada, explained why tyrannosaurs bite each other's muzzles. According to scientists, this was done in the struggle for territory, females and higher status.
