Analyze it. The augmented reality system will be installed on a rifle

An artificial intelligence system has been developed that interacts with the rifle's electro-optical sight, with an eyepiece mounted on a helmet, and with parts of a weapon. It will provide soldiers with intuitive combat information in real time. The system will transform conventional rifles into smart weapons, allowing for increased mission efficiency and soldiers' survival both day and night.

ARCAS stands for Assault Rifle Combat Application System. It was developed by the Israeli company Elbit Systems, providing combat capabilities to infantry fighters and special operations participants. This list includes: distance measurement, automatic ballistic correction, fire source detection, video motion detection, the ability to shoot from the corner and from the hip, an interface with tactical command and control, navigation assistance, identification of a friend or foe.

An artificial intelligence computer is integrated into the advanced grip of the assault rifle. He works with innovative software and a range of applications. A miniature computer unit receives and processes data collected from the soldier's field of view. Assembles their electro-optical rifle scope. In addition, the computer processes data from other users of the system in command and mechanical information about the rifle.

Combat information is presented to the soldier in the form of an intuitive layer of augmented reality on top of the usual image, which is visible through an electro-optical sight or eyepiece mounted on a helmet. Soldiers operate the system using a joystick button located on the front grip of the rifle and a graphical user interface. According to representatives of the company, the interface is similar to that used in computer games, so it is not difficult to master it. The developers also noted that ARCAS is another important building block in the portfolio of solutions for foot soldiers. The development of this new solution is part of an ongoing effort and investment in research and development aimed at changing the efficiency and survivability of infantry and special forces.

The video of the presentation shows how a soldier can use a rifle. Through the sight, he sees arrows showing the direction of movement and the route on the map. The rifle also sees the enemy and highlights its silhouette in red, while emitting an alarming squeak. It performs a ballistic correction when the owner of the rifle starts aiming. After the start of firing, the number of cartridges used is counted.

Experienced gamers will certainly be able to determine by eye which game this or that element and design of the augmented reality element is taken from. Interestingly, when hit, the silhouette of the enemy shatters into pieces – here, with augmented reality, it is clearly too much. With this technology, war turns into an exciting game, however, it is clearly impossible to survive and recover from death there.

Judging by the video, the rifle also transmits information about what is happening to the commanders. If several fighters are involved in the operation, the system builds a full-fledged electronic picture of what is happening, which can be observed from a bird's eye view.

ARCAS has two configurations. It can include a thermal sight for night operation or a regular daytime, electro-optical sight. ARCAS can run additional and third-party applications depending on the operational needs and requirements of the customer.
