“An old fake under a new guise”: an expert on the WP article on “Ukrainian sabotage” on Nord Stream

Kovalenko emphasized that Russia has every opportunity to carry out this type of sabotage.

The Washington Post's article about the alleged sabotage of the Nord Stream by Ukrainian special services is an old fake under a new guise.

This was stated by military-political observer of the Information Resistance group Alexander Kovalenko.

Russian narratives

The expert recalled that the authors of the article claim that the operation to blow up the gas pipeline was organized by intelligence officer Roman Chervinsky, who led a group of six people who rented a ship under false names and, using diving equipment, installed explosive devices on gas pipelines.

At the same time, the article indicates that the highest level in this operation was the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, but the President of Ukraine Zelensky, at the same time, did not know anything about the ongoing operation.

“Actually, The Washington Post’s article sits like a glove on the basis of two fundamental fakes, one of which has been relatively developing since 2014 by Russian propaganda, and the other since 2022. The first is “Ukraine is a terrorist country,” and the second is Valery Zaluzhny and Vladimir Zelensky conflict and compete,” notes Kovalenko.

The absurdity of the accusations

According to the expert, the claim that six Ukrainian special forces were able to secretly carry out an operation on EU territory to blow up gas pipelines, secretly from Western intelligence services, using only a civilian boat and diving equipment, as well as at least one and a half tons of explosives, is, to put it mildly, doubtful.

“But what’s strange about this? Explosives, for example, are sold at every turn in Gdansk, even sold in bulk.

And I’m not even talking about the fact that the work itself on installing explosives had to be carried out at a depth of 70-80 meters. That is, according to The Washington Post, installing a 500-kilogram charge on a pipe by a diver at a depth of 70 meters is a piece of cake,” the analyst sneers.

Kovalenko emphasized that Russia has every opportunity to carry out such sabotage.

“For example, in 1991, Russian combat swimmers carried out mining of the oil infrastructure of Norway. I repeat – mining of the oil infrastructure of another country,” he recalled.

In conclusion, the expert added that Ukrainians have already witnessed “a fairly old fake, but under a new guise.”

Earlier, the American edition of The Washington Post published material that Ukrainian intelligence officer Roman Chervinsky allegedly coordinated Ukraine’s attack on the Nord Stream gas pipeline last year. Chervinsky denies any involvement.

Currently, Chervinsky has been arrested for two months. He is suspected of exceeding his official authority in connection with the attempted hijacking of a Russian plane.

Let us remind you that explosions on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines occurred on September 26, 2022.
