Not all people who have had coronavirus develop postcoid syndrome, but it can manifest itself in patients who have had a mild or asymptomatic form. This was told to RIA Novosti by an infectious disease doctor, chief physician of the clinical diagnostic laboratory “Invitro-Siberia”, Andrey Pozdnyakov.

The specialist noted that the duration of postcoid syndrome is on average 4-4.5 months from the onset of symptoms. At the same time, according to him, already “compromised” organs and systems often suffer. Among the most common manifestations of it, Pozdnyakov named impaired lung function, including shortness of breath and non-restoring oxygen saturation, which occur in 70 percent of those who have been ill. The expert also noted various functional and neurological disorders, including asthenovegetative syndrome, nervous disorder and decreased concentration. 50-60 percent of patients face them.

In 50 percent of those who have had postcoid syndrome, vascular lesions are observed, approximately 20-25 percent are faced with heart damage. Gastrointestinal disorders, including liver and pancreatic dysfunctions, account for about 25-30 percent.

Pozdnyakov emphasized that one of the factors influencing the development of postcoid syndrome is immunity. A weak immune response contributes to a longer stay of the virus in the body, the infectious disease specialist explained.

Earlier, Pozdnyakov named the categories of people who are most susceptible to thrombosis, one of the most common complications of coronavirus.
