The chief US infectious disease specialist, Anthony Fauci, has uncovered the condition for the emergence of “real” herd immunity. He spoke about this in an interview with Vox.
According to him, in order for this type of immunity to form, it is necessary to vaccinate more than 75 percent of the country's population. The scientist stressed that it is more likely that about 85 percent of citizens will need to be vaccinated.
Earlier, the first coronavirus vaccination was given in the United States. The first person to receive the vaccine from BioNTech and Pfizer in the United States was New York nurse Sandra Lindsay, who has worked with COVID-19 patients for the past ten months.
There are currently several COVID-19 vaccines in the world. So, in Russia two vaccines are registered: “Sputnik V” and “EpiVacCorona”. On December 5, Moscow started vaccination against coronavirus with Sputnik V. A vaccine against COVID-19 produced by Pfizer and BioNTech has been registered in the United States, and a vaccine developed by Moderna is next in line. Also, the British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca announced the beginning of clinical trials for a combination of its AZD1222 vaccine.
