SAINT PETERSBURG, May 12. / TASS /. PK Transport Systems (PK TS) presented a trolleybus with increased autonomous running, the battery charge of which is replenished while driving from the network. The electric bus will be able to travel more than 12 km autonomously, the press service of the company told TASS.
The modernized trolleybus was presented at the X International Exhibition of Electric Transport “ElectroTrans” in Moscow. The electric bus was created on the basis of the first model of the Admiral trolleybus.
“According to the world classification, the modified Admiral trolleybus belongs to electric buses with dynamic charging, that is, the batteries replenish the energy reserve while driving from the contact network. The main feature of the new Admiral is the ability to disconnect from the contact network and travel autonomously at least 12 kilometers. Presumably, the first city where such electric buses with dynamic charging will appear will be Saratov “, – quotes the press service of the company president Felix Vinokur.
The electric bus is the optimal transport for inter-municipal transportation and remote urban areas without the presence of contact networks. According to the press service, many municipalities and commercial carriers are interested in the new model, since it does not need additional infrastructure, electric lines. The company noted that Saratov is showing increased interest in the new model. “Admiral” is 7.5 million cheaper than electric buses with ultra-fast charging and less expensive to maintain.
The traction battery in the electric bus is adapted to Russian conditions. “For the modification of the Admiral trolleybus, PK Transport Systems together with PK Energeticheskie sistemy has developed a qualitatively new domestic line-up solution in the field of lithium-ion batteries,” the press service said. The weight of the energy storage system is 100 kg lower than that of foreign counterparts. The battery is located on the roof, thus avoiding a decrease in passenger capacity in the electric bus.
The modified trolleybus is completely low-floor, equipped with USB connectors for charging gadgets, climate control systems that are environmentally friendly. The press service noted that without the use of climate control, the electric bus is able to travel 20 km without being connected to the network. Its passenger capacity is 85 people.
