YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, June 7. / TASS /. Seismologists on Monday at 03:01 (19:01 Moscow time on June 6) registered a felt earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 in the Pacific Ocean near the Kuriles (Sakhalin Region). This was reported to TASS in the Sakhalin branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

“The coordinates of the epicenter are 50.4 north latitude, 157.2 east longitude. The epicenter was 204 kilometers east of the Onekotan skeleton of the Great Kuril ridge. The depth of the focus was 59 kilometers,” the branch said.

According to seismologists, in the city of Severo-Kurilsk on the Paramushir island of the Big Kuril ridge, residents felt tremors. Their strength is now being refined.
