According to the republican Ministry of Emergency Situations, its epicenter was located a kilometer from Abakan. The Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences indicates that the epicenter was located in Abakan in the area of ul. Pyriatinskaya, 400 m south-west of the Republican Hospital.
