The American Geophysical Union (AGU) refused to accept for publication an article by Russian scientists from the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IAP RAS) because of the sanctions imposed on Russia. TASS reports.
AGU motivated its refusal by the fact that the article “New connection between El Niño – Southern Oscillation and atmospheric electricity” is a consequence of “scientific work funded by the Russian government and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as part of the Russian government.” The RAS promised to contact the US National Academy of Sciences and find out what happened.
Under the auspices of the AGU, the scientific journal Geophysical Research Letters and the Journal of Geophysical Research series are published, which are the main highly rated publications in the field of geophysics.
In May, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expanded sanctions against Russian companies and government agencies. In particular, the list includes the State Hermitage Museum, the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the All-Russian Organization Russian Geographical Society, the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute for the History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
