In the United States, a stranger broke into the house of a lonely elderly woman and held her hostage for 17 hours. The pensioner was saved thanks to the popular Wordle puzzle.
The incident took place in a suburb of Chicago on the night of February 6. Denise Holt, 80, was sleeping in her room when a naked man with scissors entered her house through the window.
The attacker was covered in blood, because, breaking the window, he caught on pieces of glass. At first, he threatened the elderly woman with reprisals, but in a matter of minutes he calmly lay down under her blanket to “warm up”.
After that, the man again grabbed the scissors and ordered the woman to go with him to the shower. Under the pressure of threats, 80-year-old Denise was forced to cut all telephone wires so that no one could get through to her.
Throughout the night, the man repeated that he would not harm the owner of the house. In the early morning he led the elderly woman into the cold basement and locked the door.
How to save a pensioner
According to police, Denise Holt was locked up for 17 hours. Being barefoot in a nightgown, she did various exercises to keep warm.
Two adult daughters Denise, living in other states, were the first to notice the disappearance of their mother. The woman shared her Wordle results with them every morning, but this time her daughters received no messages.
Worried, the women called the police to make sure their mother was okay. The offender, who at that time remained in the pensioner's house, was detained by special forces.
It turned out to be 32-year-old James Davis, who, according to preliminary data, has mental disorders. The man has already been charged with armed intrusion, kidnapping and assaulting a police officer.
The 80-year-old woman is in shock, but did not receive any physical injuries as a result of the attack.
