The incident occurred after 3:00 a.m. on June 24 at the 88th kilometer of the S17 highway on the lane leading towards Warsaw.

According to preliminary data, the 22-year-old Ukrainian citizen driving the Volkswagen van failed to exercise due caution and did not adjust his speed to the road conditions. As a result, he ran into the rear of the semi-trailer, which was being pulled by a Renault truck driven by a 61-year-old Ukrainian citizen.

“At the time of the incident, there were eight people on the bus – all citizens of Ukraine. Four people were taken to hospitals, one of them was taken there by an LPR helicopter. After an examination, it turned out that two people received bodily injuries,” the statement said.

Both drivers were sober and had a driving licence. The 22-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was detained. Police are investigating.

At the site, the lane towards Warsaw remained blocked for several hours. However, traffic is now free.

Let us recall that on Friday, June 13, a major accident involving a bus with Ukrainian license plates occurred on the Rennes-Le Mans highway (France). According to preliminary data, at least four people died, including children.

According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the bus was transporting Ukrainian citizens, including a group of minors. Representatives of the embassy and consular service immediately went to the scene of the accident.

“There was an accident involving a passenger bus with Ukrainian registration. Representatives of the embassy and the Ukrainian ambassador personally went to the scene of the accident,” the Foreign Ministry noted.

At least four people died in the accident. More than 45 were injured, 11 of whom were in serious condition. All the victims were taken to hospitals. The A81 highway is temporarily closed, emergency services are working at the scene.
