It became known about the Pentagon's plans to place a new constellation of satellites in medium-earth orbit that will track Russian hypersonic missiles.
According to Voennoye Obozreniye, tests of the system will begin next year. At the first stage, they will be held using digital satellite prototypes. If this stage is successful, real devices will be launched into space by 2029. It is noted that the average near-earth orbit is not typical for such satellites.
The devices will be equipped with an OPIR continuous infrared radiation system. It will track the launches of hypersonic missiles. At the same time, the project of the satellite constellation does not yet have a decision to destroy such missiles. This would require antimissiles, which should have a speed greater than that of Russian weapons.
