The Americans have installed “smart” cameras on the border with Mexico that can recognize people in the dark. It is assumed that the equipment with artificial intelligence will allow more careful control of the illegal movement of migrants, according to the New York Post .
The cameras were developed by the founder of an American company that specializes in gadgets and software for virtual reality. The equipment constantly scans the environment and can automatically recognize people even in low visibility conditions. This makes it possible to track illegal migrants, as well as smugglers who cross the border at night. Cameras have been installed along the southern border of the States for two thousand miles, which is about three thousand kilometers. The equipment has already begun to monitor the situation around the clock. Surveillance devices are powered by sunlight and respond to movement within a radius of two miles (that's about three kilometers).
Border guards patrolling the territory receive all information in real time. Before the introduction of such cameras, they could only monitor about a quarter of the territory from their trucks. And with new cameras, surveillance is carried out even in hard-to-reach places.
Recall that the cameras were first tested three years ago in the San Diego border sector, and recently they were installed in the El Paso sector. This is one of the busiest places for migrants to cross the border.
Earlier it was reported that German scientists are working on an artificial intelligence system capable of analyzing a driver's readiness to drive a car. The project is being worked on by specialists from the Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and the Use of Images. Fraunhofer. The new technology is based on the analysis of images received from cameras located in the passenger compartment. These can be traditional cameras, infrared or even 3D depth cameras.
