Joe Biden
Residents of the United States appreciated the words of the country's President Joe Biden about the Russian leader Vladimir Putin, considering the statements shameful and rude. This is stated in letters from the Americans received by the Russian embassy, RIA Novosti reports.
In particular, the 74-year-old veteran of the US Air Force apologized for Biden's “rude, shameful, unsolicited and unfounded” statement. He stressed that he was deeply saddened by such statements, and asked not to accept the words of the US President for the opinion of all Americans. “I deeply respect Mr. Putin and I hope that he will accept the apologies of many US citizens,” the author of the letter concluded.
Another US citizen also apologized for “shameful disrespect and slander” from Biden against Putin. “Please be aware that many Americans consider this incident to be shameful,” he wrote.
Another American addressed a letter personally to the Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov. He assured that Russians and Russia have many friends in the United States. “You contributed to this by your work with the population, accessibility and visits to many regions of the country and speaking in front of many groups of the population,” the message says. The author expressed the hope that the approach of the Russian embassy will continue to be to “keep channels open and facilitate people-to-people contacts at the subnational level.”
Earlier, Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov said that the Americans sent letters to the Russian embassy, in which they apologized for the “rash statements” of the United States to Russia. He stressed that this approach of American citizens speaks of the remaining potential for “normalizing ties between the Russian and American peoples.”
On March 17, Biden said in an interview with ABC News that he wants to hold the Russian state accountable for alleged interference in the US elections. He spoke about a conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and added that he would pay if he was found guilty. In the same conversation, Biden made a critical statement about the Russian president.
The next day, Vladimir Putin invited Biden to talk live. The Russian head of state said he was ready to discuss the topics of the coronavirus pandemic and regional conflicts. Biden initially ignored the journalists' question about whether he agreed to a conversation with the Russian president. However, a day later, he expressed confidence that at some point the dialogue would take place.
