The American was sentenced to 11 years in prison for illegal storage of classified data of the National Security Agency (NSA), which she planned to transfer to Russia. Fox TV channel reports about it.

47-year-old West Virginia resident Elizabeth Joe Shirley gained access to classified information while serving in the US Air Force. The woman rented a vault where she illegally kept a document that contained intelligence information about an unnamed foreign country.

According to the investigation, Shirley left for Mexico, where she planned to get in touch with the Russian authorities and ask to be resettled to a country that would not extradite her to the United States. In August 2019, she was arrested at a hotel in Mexico City. Messages were found on her electronic devices that she planned to send to Russian officials.

Earlier it became known that a woman was arrested in Pennsylvania, who, according to the FBI, stole the laptop of the speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi during the riots on January 6 in the US Capitol and planned to sell it to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service. She was released on bail last week.
