Scientists at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) compared the chances of hospitalization for vaccinated and unvaccinated against coronavirus. The results of the study are reported by the Axios portal.
According to a report on the incidence of COVID-19 in Los Angeles at the end of July, the risk of going to the hospital for unvaccinated patients is 29 times higher than for vaccinated patients. In addition, those who do not receive the vaccine are five times more likely to contract the coronavirus than those who are vaccinated.
At the same time, it is noted that a quarter (25 percent) of all infections in Los Angeles, which were recorded from May 1 to July 25, were in vaccinated US residents. Another 71 percent of those infected did not get vaccinated, and 3 percent of citizens did not have time to complete the course.
As the newspaper notes, the data obtained coincide with another study by the CDC, according to which the effectiveness of vaccines was reduced due to the “delta” variant of the coronavirus. As a result of a survey of medical staff working in the red zone, it turned out that the effectiveness of drug protection was reduced to 66 percent, regardless of the time when vaccinations were carried out.
Earlier, a professor at the Institute of Immunology of La Jolla, Dr. Shane Crotty, said that the emergence of a completely immune strain of coronavirus to vaccines is unlikely. He explained that the immunity does not match the virus pattern of behavior.
