The deputy of the House of Representatives of the American state of Illinois proposed to ban the video game Grand Theft Auto (GTA) due to the fact that the cases of car theft in the city of Chicago and the surrounding area have become more frequent. It is reported by ABC 7.
Democratic politician Marcus Evans said that it is GTA that inspires residents of areas where cars are more and more often stolen. He is preparing a bill to ban the game for sale within the state boundaries.
Early Walker, the head of volunteer activists patrolling gas stations in Chicago and its suburbs to prevent theft, agrees with him. He said that, according to his findings, the GTA strongly influences teenagers, pushing them to such crimes. Walker said Evans' proposal is supported by both Democratic and Republican voters in Illinois.
The influence of works of popular culture on adolescents also worries the Russian authorities: for example, in January 2021 the Kolpinsky District Court of St. Petersburg banned the anime series Death Note. In the cartoon, they found calls to suicide, images of physical and psychological violence, as well as unconventional sexual relations. The ban imposed by the court led to the blocking of two sites where one could watch the “Death Note”.
