American physicists managed to exceed the speed of light
American physicists from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California and the University of Rochester in New York were able to exceed the speed of light, previously considered a constant, according to Sciencealert.
Scientists managed to exceed the speed of light (300 thousand kilometers per second) using pulses inside a hot plasma. In this environment, by ripping electrons from the stream of hydrogen and helium ions using a laser, the researchers were able to increase the speed of the light wave to an indicator that exceeds the speed of light by 30%.
The authors note that this experiment is important for the development of new ultra-high-power lasers. Today they use solid-state optical materials that are damaged at high energies. Plasma streams can be a solution to this problem. Such lasers can be used in thermonuclear reactors and particle accelerators.
