American doctors were able to reproduce the silent speech of a paralyzed man
Doctors from the University of California placed a brain implant on the paralyzed man, which was able to reproduce his silent speech. To do this, the neural network analyzed the activity in the motor areas of the left hemisphere, reports N + 1.
Unlike analogs, this program was originally trained on a patient who was unable to speak. He was paralyzed 16 years ago after a massive stroke.
First, the neural network learned to read the activity of neurons, and then – to predict the continuation of the phrase, using 50 words. Now the interface correctly understands a man in 74.4% of cases and distinguishes speech at a speed of 15 words per minute.
Scientists are going to improve their development: to expand the lexicon, increase the speed of speech recognition, and also conduct tests with a large number of people.
