American analyst Peter Beinart accused the United States of hypocrisy in its dialogue with Moscow. In an article for The New York Times, he wrote that democratic principles had been betrayed in Washington.

According to Beinart, the United States has always relied on spheres of influence in building its foreign policy. “Washington now prefers to use economic coercion to punish governments that ally with adversaries and challenge its regional dominance,” he notes in the article.

The specialist added that America is not yet a supporter of the “Monroe Doctrine” and called the embargo against Cuba political intimidation. Beinart compared relations between Russia and Ukraine with America and Mexico and called on Washington to accept defeat over Ukraine and Russia's right to veto military alliances with this country. He believes that, in practice, Moscow already has it, and this is much better than a full-scale invasion that will turn the entire country into a battlefield.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that the allegations of Moscow's allegedly hatched plan to invade Ukraine are the fruit of the sick imagination of American Russophobic circles, the result of their mental disorder. Antonov stressed that Russia has no aggressive intentions towards Ukraine.
