US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan laid flowers on the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge in Moscow, where Russian politician Boris Nemtsov was killed in 2015. This was announced on Saturday, February 27, by the press secretary of the US Embassy Rebecca Ross.

“Ambassador Sullivan has joined colleagues on the 6th anniversary of the brutal assassination of Boris Nemtsov, a Russian politician dedicated to fighting for a better future for his country and his fellow citizens,” Ross wrote.

In addition to Sullivan, British Ambassador Deborah Bronnert and Latvian Ambassador Maris Riekstins decided to bring flowers to the scene of Nemtsov's murder. The British diplomatic mission in its Twitter account noted that Nemtsov “enjoyed universal respect in the UK for his work to promote democracy and human rights in Russia.” The Latvian ambassador, in turn, said in his post on Twitter that it was a great honor for him to honor the memory of the Russian politician along with other foreign diplomats.

Boris Nemtsov was shot dead on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge in central Moscow on February 27, 2015. He was hit by four bullets and died on the spot.

In January 2016, the Investigative Committee of Russia announced the disclosure of the Nemtsov case. Zaur Dadaev, his accomplices Anzor and Shagit Gubashev, Temirlan Eskerkhanov and Khamzat Bakhayev were charged with murder committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy for selfish motives or for hire. In addition, the possible organizer of the murder Ruslan Mukhudinov was arrested in absentia and put on the international wanted list.
