Attempts by the opposition of Belarus to play the “Russian card”, which can scold the countries, are futile. Such an assessment was given to them by the representative of Moscow in Minsk Dmitry Mezentsev, RIA Novosti reports.

“Attempts by some protest organizers or directors who want to stage political performances on a” stage “in Belarus – with the drawing of the Russian card – in an effort to provoke possible tension in relations between Russia and Belarus, have no prospect,” Mezentsev said.

On November 19, the head of the People's Anti-Crisis Administration (NAU), a member of the Presidium of the Coordination Council of the Belarusian Opposition Pavel Latushko sent an appeal to the diplomatic missions of Russia with a proposal to hold bilateral meetings. In his opinion, Russia and the European Union should form a special mission capable of helping to resolve the political crisis in Belarus. The appeal says that its goal will be to promote “real dialogue to end violence and repression, to bring those responsible to justice.”

On October 26, after the former Belarusian presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya announced a general strike, a new surge of protest activity began in the country. The demands of the protesters have remained unchanged for almost four months: an end to the violence by the security forces and the resignation of the current president. President of the country Alexander Lukashenko does not think that he won the elections in August by deception, and also calls all reports of abuse of detainees and prisoners fakes. He called the events of recent weeks in the country a “terrorist war”.
