Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov, answering a question from Newsweek, explained the purpose of the West’s accusations against Russia because of the allegedly impending “invasion” of Ukraine. He stressed that such statements are blasphemous and unfounded. The diplomat’s words are quoted in the Russian embassy’s Facebook account.

The head of the diplomatic mission pointed out that Western media reports about provocations are lies and represent part of the information war against Russia. Moscow, in turn, is not going to attack anyone and hopes to build good-neighborly relations with the fraternal Ukrainian people.

Washington has been stirring up the whole world for several months with statements that Ukraine is about to become a victim of “Russian aggression”. However, bad luck came out, because there is no attack. Apparently, therefore, for greater persuasiveness, “leaks” of certain intelligence data with blasphemous and unfounded accusations were used

On February 4, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the United States had warned Ukraine in advance about the scenario of provocation, which, according to Washington, Russia plans to organize in order to get a pretext for a military invasion.

Earlier, The New York Times and The Washington Post reported that, according to American intelligence, Russia intends to release a fake video showing alleged Ukrainian provocations on Russian territory or against the Russian-speaking population in eastern Ukraine.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby confirmed the information about the alleged provocation with a “propaganda video that would depict corpses and actors playing the role of grieving people, destroyed buildings, as well as military equipment that Ukraine or the West have.”

The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that this is not the first time such materials have been published in the United States, but nothing followed. “This is not the first such promise. Previously, similar things were also voiced. But nothing ever came out,” the Kremlin’s official representative recalled.

An attempt to compromise Russia

Antonov said that the United States is trying to compromise Russia and “throw mud” in the hope that “something will stick.” He added that the price of such “compromising material” of the American special services is known. He noted that they had “thoroughly disgraced themselves” and cited the example of a test tube with white powder handed over to the United States Secretary of State at the time to justify the invasion of Iraq.

The ambassador called on the United States “not to play scenes for the gullible” and suggested that the accusations about the allegedly preparing Russian operations “under a false flag” are aimed at justifying possible provocations of Ukraine against Donbass.

There is a feeling that American PR people, in an effort to compromise Russia, act on the principle of “throw as much dirt as possible, maybe something will stick.” The essays on the topic of Russian operations “under a false flag”, apparently, are aimed at constructing an alibi for possible operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against Donbass.

On February 4, the Russian Embassy in the United States evaluated the American scenario about the alleged preparation of an operation against Ukraine by the Russian Federation for a subsequent “invasion” and stated that it was not surprised by what was happening.

The diplomatic department once again recalled how in 2003, Colin Powell, who served as US Secretary of State, demonstrated a test tube with white powder at a meeting of the UN Security Council, stating that it contained anthrax spores. Powell claimed to have received information about the alleged biological weapons production technologies of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

Earlier it was also reported that the head of the press service of the US State Department, Ned Price, refused to provide evidence of Russia’s “fabrication” of the video as a pretext for “invasion” of Ukraine.

Russia is concerned about the US position on the situation around Ukraine

Antonov said that Moscow is concerned about Washington’s position on the situation around Ukraine. He recalled that the Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, agreed at the talks in Geneva that the Minsk Agreements are the basis for resolving the crisis. According to the Ambassador, the common task is to force Kiev to fulfill its obligations and peacefully negotiate with representatives of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR).

We consider the current American actions to pump weapons into Ukraine to be erroneous and extremely dangerous. Thus, the United States condones the nationalist group in Kiev, which is doing everything to turn the Russian-speaking population into a persecuted minority in an ethnocratic state

On February 3, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov announced the arrival of the seventh plane with weapons from the United States. The plane landed at Boryspil airport and delivered 85 tons of ammunition for grenade launchers.

Prior to that, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry announced the arrival of 45 aircraft with American weapons worth a total of $ 200 million.

In recent months, statements have been made in Kiev and in the West about the threat of a Russian invasion. Moscow categorically denies such accusations. Against this background, the UK has supplied Ukraine with several thousand light anti-tank missiles. Canada decided to allocate $ 268 million, and Poland – Piorun portable anti-aircraft missile systems. The Netherlands intends to take part in the program for the construction of 48 modern hospitals and rehabilitation centers for Ukrainian servicemen.
