The world's largest online retailer, Amazon, is strongly advancing the expansion of its cargo aircraft fleet. The US group of tech multibillionaire Jeff Bezos announced the purchase of eleven Boeing 767-300 planes on Tuesday.
Amazon is acquiring the planes from the airlines Delta and Westjet, the price was not given. Amazon's customers are currently more dependent than ever on quick deliveries, the company said in a press release.
The US Internet giant is on a rapid expansion course with its air freight division Amazon Air, which should accelerate deliveries and make the group more independent. It was only in June that Amazon announced that it would lease twelve more machines due to the shipping boom in the corona crisis and thus expand the fleet to over 80 aircraft.
In November, Amazon opened its first regional air freight center in Europe at Leipzig-Halle Airport.
