Vienna. Private supplementary health insurance is likely to have experienced a boost as a result of the corona crisis. According to their own statements, 31 percent of Austrians have such insurance, as shown in a survey commissioned by the comparison portal “durchblicker.at”. Nine percent of the policies were only concluded in the previous year. That is a high value for a product with an average term of 40 to 45 years, explained Durchblicker managing director Reinhold Baudisch.
The main reasons given for a degree were free choice of doctor and shorter waiting times. The main argument against insurance is the high cost. “Durchblicker.at” now offers a comparison calculator: There you can compare around 500 tariff variants of the seven full-service providers in Austria and conclude contracts with six providers.
The costs vary depending on the age at which you start, but also depend on whether you want an optional doctor and special class insurance or just one of the two, whether you accept a deductible or only want to acquire the right to an insurance, the benefits of which you only want to buy later takes.
Changing tariffs with the same provider is often possible under certain conditions. If you want to change the provider, you usually have to undergo a new health check – with increasing age it is often no longer so cheap.
Previous illnesses often mean higher costs – or you accept that everything related to the previous illness is not insured. If an illness only occurs when you already have insurance, this no longer has any negative consequences.
