Almost 100 applications from all over Italy for an altar boy job

Not only the Dolomites are attractive to Cortina

The pastor of the renowned northern Italian ski resort Cortina d'Ampezzo is spoiled for choice: almost 100 candidates from all over the country have applied for the post of acolyte in the Dolomite city. Against the background of the corona crisis, Ivano Brambilla's offer, which in addition to salary and Christmas bonuses also includes accommodation and food, is apparently particularly tempting.

“I did not think that I would receive 95 applications from all over Italy – from Lombardy to Sicily -” said the pastor, who now wants to take the time to check the CVs. In a first phase, the altar boy should receive a fixed-term employment contract. After that, the contract is to be converted into an open-ended one.

“30 percent of the candidates sent in their application out of real passion, some of them already have experience as altar boys. 70 percent of the people apply for lack of a job. The applications came from men between the ages of 25 and 63 years.” Together with my employees we will check all offers carefully, “emphasized the pastor.

The new altar boy will have to look after the baroque church of Saints Philip and James Cortinas. She was by Pope Benedict XVI. Elevated to a minor basilica in 2011 and has been allowed to wear the Pope's coat of arms ever since. The last acolyte had retired after 40 years of service.
