The Internet will appear in all schools of the country by the end of 2021, it needs to be connected to another 10 thousand educational institutions, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said. He specified that the necessary IT infrastructure in all schools will be formed by 2024. The government plans to control the speed of traffic and other parameters of the Internet in schools.
“Until the end of 2021, the remaining 10,733 schools will be provided with the Internet,” said Mr. Chernyshenko at a meeting on connecting schools to high-speed Internet (quoted by TASS). According to him, this year it is planned to equip more than a thousand schools in 16 regions with IT infrastructure, in total by 2024 – more than 39 thousand schools.
The government also intends to introduce a monitoring system this year to control traffic speed and other parameters of the Internet. The bandwidth must be at least 50 Mbit / s for rural schools and at least 100 Mbit / s for urban schools, for schools in remote and hard-to-reach areas – at least 1 Mbit / s.
Dmitry Chernyshenko instructed the Federal Antimonopoly Service and the Ministry of Finance to check the price level for Internet connection in Russian schools until May 11 and identify unscrupulous suppliers.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Education Sergei Kravtsov said that the ministry plans to set up school Wi-Fi so that students have access only to verified content. According to him, this way you can protect children from negative information.
