Several people fell ill after drinking bottled water.
On Thursday, December 14, members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg urged not to drink water from bottles that were likely contaminated. The warning was issued after several people felt unwell.
This was reported by Politico.
“You are asked not to drink a single bottle of water in the EP premises in Strasbourg,” reads an emergency SMS message sent to thousands of staff and politicians.
This SMS also provides an emergency medical number to contact if you feel unwell, and indicates that the bottles were also distributed in the offices of the President of the European Parliament Roberta Mezzoli.
The press service of the European Parliament clarified that the French authorities reported the incident. “The warning message has been sent as part of the duty of care of the establishment. Appropriate checks are being carried out,” the press service said.
An EU official said several people fell ill after drinking bottled water, possibly from a poorly washed glass bottle , but they have already recovered.
“It’s good that I limited myself to wine,” joked an EU official.
The publication noted that the European Parliament building in Strasbourg has long had problems with the safety of drinking water, but this usually concerns water from taps.
Politico recalled that in 2021, the former parliamentary president David Sassoli, who subsequently died, played down the idea that he contracted legionellosis, which he suffered from, due to water in the institution's building in Strasbourg.
Recall that earlier the President of the European Parliament Robert Metsol said that Europe will not allow Putin to destroy the security of the continent.
