Iranian state television called the airstrike "terrorist" attack by Israel.
On Saturday, January 20, four senior Iranian security officials were killed in an airstrike in the Syrian capital. Israel is blamed for the attack.
Al Jazeera reports this.
The report said the attack targeted a building in the southwest of the Syrian capital that houses a military airport, as well as the UN headquarters in Damascus, embassies and restaurants.
Al Jazeera sources report that the target of the attack was the intelligence unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), adding that a senior IRGC intelligence official in Syria and his aides were in the building.
A brief statement from the IRGC said that the Israeli airstrike killed “several Syrian military personnel and four military advisers.”
Iranian state television called the airstrike a “terrorist” attack by Israel.
Iranian state media said the attack, which was likely carried out by at least four missiles, completely destroyed the four-story building. At least one person was taken to hospital.
Israel does not comment on this incident. The Israeli army is known to have been attacking Iranian-linked targets in Syria for years.
Senior IRGC figures have been present in Syria since the start of the civil war in 2011, supporting the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.
Recall that at the end of December 2023, as a result of an Israeli airstrike in Syria, the commander of the military wing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran was killed.
