Airlines around the world have canceled more than 5,000 flights during the New Year holidays due to the omicron strain. Reported by CNN.
According to the newspaper, both domestic and international flights are canceled. In the United States, their number fell by 1.7 thousand on Christmas Day. The decision was made in connection with the increase in the number of infections with the new strain among employees.
The US Transportation Security Administration reported that residents go on travel despite the risks: for example, on December 23, more than 2.1 million passengers were recorded at the country's airports.
Earlier, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) medical expert David Powell said that the risk of contracting coronavirus on the plane increased two to three times due to the new omicron strain. According to him, in recent weeks, the new strain of COVID-19 has rapidly spread around the world, while the number of aircraft passengers before the New Year is significantly increasing.
