In the Poltava region, a drunken 45-year-old man was detained, who shot his girlfriend in the head with a gun. After the crime, he himself telephoned the police, but could not explain the motive for the murder.
The incident took place on the evening of February 8 in the city of Zavodskoye. When law enforcement officers arrived at the suspect's house, on the floor in one of the rooms they saw the body of a 29-year-old woman with no signs of life and in a pool of her own blood.
It is already known that the woman was not related to the owner of the house. During the arrest, the 45-year-old man had clear signs of alcohol intoxication: he had already taken blood for an examination.
During interrogation, the suspect said that he shot his girlfriend with a hunting smoothbore gun.
Then it turned out that the weapon belonged to his late father and was not re-registered in the manner prescribed by law.
Preliminary criminal proceedings were opened under Part 1 of Article 115 (Deliberate murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In the near future, the court will choose a measure of restraint for the attacker: the prosecution will petition for arrest.
If the man is found guilty, he could face seven to fifteen years in prison.
