Finland is taking measures to prevent Russian tourists from entering the country.
This was stated by Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, writes the Finnish edition Iltalehti.
“Today we decided to start preparing a national decision on how we can limit this tourism movement or prevent it completely, and this national decision may include new legislation that will be adopted very quickly or with an interpretation of existing rules,” he said.
The minister stressed that Finland does not want to be a transit country for Schengen visas issued by other countries.”
Havisto was asked if Russian tourists pose a threat to Finland's security.
“Finland has defended the position that an ordinary person traveling for tourism purposes does not pose a security risk, but there is a moral or ethical principle in this. Russians have no moral or ethical grounds to continue their holiday trips as usual, while the a time when Russia is waging war against Ukraine,” the diplomat explained.
