Following a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday, July 10, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made statements about the introduction of sanctions against Russia and the possibility of a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.

The statements of the head of the State Department are quoted by Clash Report and Russian propagandists RIA Novosti.

According to Marco Rubio, the Trump administration is consulting with the US Senate about what the bill on sanctions against Russia will look like.

“Trump is disappointed with the lack of flexibility on the part of Russia,” Rubio said.

The US secretary of state also said that he had discussed with Lavrov “some ideas” about what a “road map” for ending the war in Ukraine might look like.

“The United States is interested in a clear plan to end the conflict in Ukraine, proposals on this will be presented to Trump on Thursday,” he said.

Marco Rubio also said that at a meeting with Russian representatives on Thursday, the United States heard proposals on Ukraine that had not been voiced before.

“The United States will continue to engage with all parties to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, despite the 'lack of progress' in peace talks,” the US Secretary of State stressed.

Let us recall that the day before it became known that US President Donald Trump agreed to support a bipartisan bill on sanctions against Russia.

A bill that would impose a 500% tariff on countries that buy oil and gas from Russia could be passed as early as this month.
