The state of emergency in the energy sector will be in effect for two months.

The Moldovan parliament has declared a state of emergency after the threats of the Russian Gazprom to stop the supply of gas.

This is reported by the Moldovan edition of NewsMaker.

It is noted that 58 deputies voted for the introduction of a state of emergency, this regime will be in effect for 60 days.

According to Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa, the introduction of a state of emergency will allow for prompt decisions to provide gas to the population, in particular, bypassing legislative norms. According to her, this mode will optimize gas consumption.

On Wednesday, January 19, the Moldovan government decided to impose a state of emergency in the energy sector. Such measures are being taken due to the fact that Russian Gazprom rejected Moldova’s request to postpone the advance payment for gas supply in January and threatens to stop gas supply to the country.

Moldovagaz and Gazprom signed a five-year gas supply contract, which entered into force on November 1 and stipulates that Moldova will pay an advance payment until the 20th of each month.
