After bankruptcy against Austria: LASK coach Thalhammer fired

by alex

After only one win from seven Bundesliga games, Dominik Thalhammer was released with immediate effect.

Shortly before the start of the group phase in the Conference League, LASK tumbled into a crisis. After the 0-2 home defeat against Austria on Sunday, the Upper Austrians are only in penultimate place after seven rounds, have been without a win in six championship games and have only scored five goals – fewer than any other Bundesliga team. The omens before the guest appearance on Thursday at HJK Helsinki are anything but ideal.

Coach Dominik Thalhammer was chosen as the scapegoat by the fans. Calls for the replacement of the former women's team boss echoed through the Paschinger Stadium on Sunday. And the fans were heard: on Monday, the club announced that Thalhammer would be released with immediate effect.

Lack of conviction

President Siegmund Gruber justified the decision by saying that those responsible lacked the conviction “that under the current pressure – triggered by the recent poor results and performance – he will manage to bring our team back into the form we need, to achieve our seasonal goals.

The previous co-trainer, Andreas Wieland, will act as head coach until the winter break, according to a broadcast from Linz. Rene Gartler remains assistant trainer. Wieland will play at least the next 18 games. At the same time, the search for a new coach and sports director is ongoing, as the club wants to separate the positions again in the future.
