In Mali, northwest Africa, local Tuareg rebels ambushed and destroyed a convoy of Russian PMC mercenaries “Wagner”. Some of the “Wagnerites” were captured, but many were killed. Among the dead was a well-known Russian propagandist and author of the Russian Telegram channel Grey Zone with the call sign “White”.

How the “Wagnerites” fell into an ambush
A column of Malian government troops and Wagner mercenaries fell into an ambush set up by local Taureg rebels near the city of Algeria bordering Tinzaouaten.
A helicopter flew out to help the Wagnerites, but it was shot down.
Between 17 and 50 Malian government and Wagnerite fighters were killed in the battle. The exact number of captured Russians is unknown. Negotiations are currently underway to pay their ransom.
The rebel movement “Permanent Strategic Framework for Peace, Security and Development (CSP-PSD)”, which includes the Tauregs, said that its fighters captured armored vehicles and trucks.
Telegram channels publish photos and videos of destroyed equipment and dozens of dead.
Propagandist and commander of the assault on Bakhmut killed
Tuareg rebels wounded and killed dozens of Wagner PMC mercenaries, including the famous Russian propagandist and author of the Russian Telegram channel Grey Zone Nikita Fedyanin, call sign “White”.
“This is really true, there are many of our guys, the guys from Wagner, killed and captured in Mali. “They got ambushed,” writes propagandist Anastasia Kashevarova.
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Grey Zone channel has been one of the most famous Z-channels that has spread hatred towards Ukraine. It has also been an unofficial mouthpiece for the Wagner PMC.
“Unfortunately, our good friend, the admin of the GREY ZONE channel (call sign “White”), died in battle. He died with dignity – with a weapon in his hands, as befits a warrior,” writes the Z-channel “Rusich.”

The channel “Svyatosha Broadcasts” claims that in addition to Fedyanin, the famous Wagner commander Anton Elizarov “Lotus,” who led the offensive on Soledar and Bakhmut during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, died in Mali.
How “Wagnerites” Ended Up in Mali
In May 2021, a coup d'état took place in the Republic of Mali in Africa, resulting in the military arresting the country's interim President Ba N'Daw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane and transporting them to the Kati military base near the country's capital, Bamako.
Since then, the foreign policy of the country's leaders has changed vector and, instead of international assistance led by France, relies on Russia. In the same 2021, Wagner PMC mercenaries arrived in Mali at the “invitation” of the junta that seized power to help maintain power.
Government forces, assisted by the Wagnerites, are opposed by the rebel movement “Permanent Strategic Framework for Peace, Security and Development (CSP-PSD)”. It includes the Tuareg, an ethnic group that inhabits the Sahara region, including parts of northern Mali, many of whom feel marginalized by the country's government.
What will be the consequences for the PMC “Wagner”
Military observer of the “Information Resistance” group Alexander Kovalenko predicts that the remnants of the Wagner PMC will be completely withdrawn from Africa, after which the group will be “finally cleaned out in one form or another.”
“The leadership, to one degree or another, will be put under the knife, both figuratively and literally. But the rank and file will simply be thrown into the meat grinder in Ukraine. After the elimination of the trio Prigozhin, Chekalov, Utkin, the PMC “Wagner” had its last chance for survival, and this chance was in the hands of the amoeba Anton Elizarov “Lotus”. But the amoeba decided to hide away from Russia in Mali – it didn’t help,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to him, in exchange for the Wagnerites, the Russian command may send the African Corps, which is currently fighting in the Kharkiv direction in Ukraine. “Completely replacing the African control areas of the Wagner PMC with them will relieve at least one direction in the north of the Kharkiv region,” Kovalenko noted.

Social media users began publishing memes about the defeat “Wagnerites”.
Some in the meme even hinted at the alleged involvement of Ukrainian special services in this event.
Others mention in this context the Volkswagen Touareg model of the car, consonant with the name rebels.
Recall that in the fall of 2023, an Il-76 military transport plane, which was associated with the Russian terrorist group Wagner, crashed during landing at the Cao Mali airport.
